Vietnam – Day 3 – Hanoi

Another good one in the books!

Made our way to Ho Chi Minh Complex to see Ho Chi Minh’s mausoleum and museum. Not realizing until we got there, but you must cover your shoulders and knees before going in. So we bought some scarves nearby and were able to go in. Most of the complex did not allow photography, so there isn’t much to show, except this one from across the street.

Ho Chi Minh was Vietnam’s president from 1945-1969 when he died. He is the founder of the Communist Party of Vietnam and helped lead the country to independence from France.

We knew we were going to see the final resting place of Ho Chi Minh. We walked in there totally expecting to see a closed coffin, but instead, see a completely preserved body in a glass case. It looked like the guy was just sleeping. Never seen anything like that before.

It was also so crazy hot and with our scarves on we were sweating buckets. So on to come refreshing drinks!

Kat has some kind of blended sesame drink with coffee and I had passion fruit juice. They are very big on fruit juices here!

Now lots of walking!

Lots of electric fans. Very much needed!
Another cold sweet treat on a hot day! 🥵
Tran Quoc Pagoda
Illustrations of the Law of Karma . Read through some of them, they are pretty funny😂

Made our way to Train Street! The street is closed and we knew you had to be escorted on the street by a cafe worker in order to get through, so we did that. This guy said he was going to take us to a cafe with a good view, and then we got on his pedicab and he takes us way far away. Basically to the non super touristy section of the track. which ended up being really great actually, but of course over charged us for the pedicab… soooo you win some you lose some. The experience was super cool though!

Super yummy noods

Water puppet show. Super neat experience. Never seen something like that. A great form of entertainment in the AC!

It was a hard requirement for me to have pho before we left Hanoi, since this is its birth place. We went to a place recommended to us from a local, and it was crazy busy with a line out the door. So we decided to keep walking and got pulled into the place next door since they had good vegetarian options for Kat. And it turned out to be our favorite meal so far!

Chicken Pho
Always wipe your chop sticks before using because they sit out on the table all day.

Also learned that if you pronounce pho as FOH it means street. As if you pronounce it as FUH, it means noodle!
