Hi hi, day 5 people! I am loving Madrid a lot! It has similar energy to nyc! It’s very busy, high energy, lots of people, diverse people, lots to see and do. I ca already tell id love to come back here some day!
Today’s goals were to do the things I want to do that maybe Kat (my friend that’s coming tomorrow, who has already been to Madrid) might not want to do, plus try some CHURROS!
Okay so I went back to Mercado de San Miguel, because it’s close and easy to try things. Went for some salmon and shrimp tapas plus a calamari sandwich, a Madrid staple called “bocadillo de calamares”… and a glass of wine of course… when in Spain, you can drink any time of day!

Off to find some churros! So my guide yesterday said there are two main places to get churros con chocolate. Either Chocolatería San Ginés (founded in 1894) which is known for their dark chocolate dip, or Churrería Chocolateria 1902, known for their more sweet milk chocolate dip, so I opted for the sweeter option of course. 😅

Walked to Museo de Historia de Madrid. Learned some more about how Madrid because the capital of Spain and started its sewer system, education system, how they were involved in the Industrial Revolution, how clothing and music changed throughout the times, saw lots of art and old photographs.
This building is a renovated orphanage from 1929.

More walking … and I stumbled upon a Christmas market at Plaza de España. That’s another thing that reminds me of nyc, you can just walk and walk and stumble upon things to see and do, I love that !

More walking… 😁 to Parque de la Montaña. little did I know how beautiful and peaceful it would be! There was a beautiful lookout point on the Palace and Cathedral from yesterday, as well as a man playing guitar!! I sat there for probably almost an hour just enjoying the moment .

In this park is Templo de Debod. The building was a gift from Egypt to Spain in 1968 to thank Spain for assistance following UNESCO ‘s international appeal to save Nubian temples that were being threatened by construction. In return, Egypt donated four monuments to the countries that responded significantly to this appeal: located in the United States, Italy, Netherlands, and Spain.

But all that walking has me exhausted for the day. 10pm and lights are shutting off! Kat joins me tomorrow morning for 4.5 days! Yay! Stay tuned!
