Today we had a little day trip to Sintra, about an hour west of Lisbon. This town is in the hills and is known as being the vacation home of the kings and queens that rules in Lisbon. So lots of castles/palaces and nature!

(Also Kat’s last day 😒)

Honestly don’t remember all the historical details now… I just know they had a strong Muslim (Moorish) influence and the kings used to come out for vacations, while the queens stayed for longer periods to help preside over the mountain out land.

Queijada : Portuguese cheese tart made of cheese, egg, sugar, flour and cinnamon.
Travesseiro de Sintra : Sintra pillowcase, custom to the bakery Piriquita in Sintra. Made of puff pastry, egg yolk, sugar, and almond . This one was SO GOOOD!
Quinta de Regaleira with a huge garden!!
A 7 story well you can walk down
Side story…. One time in Central Park during off least hours, a pond was covered in algae just like this … enough where it looked like it could’ve been solid and not water….. and Louie thought he could walk on it and went splashing!! πŸ˜‚
Grilled pork and salad. Simple lunch recommended by our guide
Pena Palace
It’s giving Bowsers Castle πŸ˜‚ iykyk

The whole castle was covers in Christmas lights and we stayed just long enough for it to be visible! The lights plus the sunset plus some cheesy ass Christmas music made it seem like we were at Disney πŸ˜‚
