Tunisia – Day 2 – Tunis, Carthage, Sidi Bou Said

Today was my only full solo day. which means… walk as much as possible and see as much as possible!

I originally had a walking tour planned for the morning but it got cancelled so I kind of just roamed and was hoping to find something good!

Cats everywhere!! ❤️

Desperately needed something to eat!!

Here’s some honesty about my solo traveling… every time it takes me a while to warm up to being awkward and uncomfortable and dealing with the language barrier. I searched way too long for a place to eat because it felt intimidating to go into a place and struggle through the language barrier. It’s so natural, and nobody is every mean about it. But I feel awkward and uncomfortable and that’s a very normal thing about traveling, especially solo traveling. So just wanted to put it out there in case anyone else feels that way and needed to hear it.

Mint sweet tea! I had to order two since it was so good. I thought the guy asked if I wanted milk in my tea so I said yea, turns out it was mint! And I loved it!
Crepe with ham, tuna and cheese. I did not know this had tuna in it when I ordered it… so caught me by surprise. I’m learning tuna is a staple in Tunisian cuisine.

So between walking the streets and sitting at the cafe, I was out for probably 3.5 hours. Had to head back to the hotel (for a reliable bathroom). And then took a taxi about 30 min East to the Carthage area.

Baths of Antoninus. Roman bath ruins from like 150AD I think? (I love me some ruins)

I’m all in on this hiking/sun protection attire lol, so cute 🥴

Then I walked from the baths to Sidi Bou Said. It was about a 50 min walk…. Nothing for someone who lives in New York lol. This town is super cute with the white and blue colors. Giving Santorini vibes.

Bambalouni: sugared donut, yum!
Gulf of Tunis
I asked the girl working there what I should get and she said “Tunisian Salad” . More tuna, with cucumbers, onions, potatoes. And a Tunisian apple soda

Then the sun was already setting by the time I was heading back. Tomorrow I meet up with the group and trek down to Enfidha.
